The Emperor of China befriends a golden-throated nightingale - but when a bejeweled mechanical bird shows up at court, will he choose the toy over a living creature? This classic story is told with an added environmental twist, as the Emperor's powerful advisor aims to chop down the royal forest. He uses the mechanical bird to try to sway the Emperor, and the Nightingale must regain the Emperor's affection to save her home.

Designed for kids K-5, best for young children.

PRODUCTION HISTORY

Following a sucessful season of her musical, King Midas, Kit's new musical, The Emperor and the Nightingale was commissioned by the Schenectady Theater for Children for their 2008 season. It toured to approximately 30 elementary schools in upstate NY.
