Kit Goldstein is an accomplished playwright, lyricist and composer, with over twelve productions of her plays and musicals in upstate, NY, as well as staged readings at the Golden Fleece Composers Chamber Theater in NYC and Byrdcliffe Guild in Woodstock, NY. She is a Niskayuna native, and a 2005 graduate of Union College in Schenectady, NY. Kit is an alumna of the prestigious BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Writing Workshop in NYC, which has been called "The Harvard of Musical Theatre" by the New York Times and boasts such graduates as Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime, Once on this Island), Alan Menken (Disney's Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin) and Jeff Marx & Robert Lopez (Avenue Q). Since 2005 she has been commissioned by the Schenectady Theater for Children to write original musicals to be performed in upstate NY elementary schools, including King Midas, The Emperor and the Nightingale, The Mermaid of Edam, and It's Raining Tamales! Selections from The Mermaid of Edam were performed for Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Maxima of the Netherlands on their visit to Albany for the Quadricentennial. Following a 2009 staged reading, in November 2010 her one-act musical about Cooperstown's famous Cardiff Giant, The Giant Hoax, was produced by The Classic Theater Guild in Fall, 2010. In Spring 2012 her new musical Androcles and the Lion will be performed by the Schenectady Theater for Children in a production that will tour elementary schools, community centers, and libraries.
